Cherubim Throne, God's "Mercy Seat" atop the Ark of the Covenant, Exodus 25:19 (Mattfeld Proposal). See also the "side viewof the Mercy Seat (17 Dec. 2002).

Note: The Cherubim are described as facing each other and the throne's seat. I have thus employed the concept of the "turned face/head" which appears in ancient renderings of winged sphinxes in Canaanite and Phoenician art forms of the Neo-Assyrian period.

Exodus 37: 9 RSV

"The cherubim spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat were the faces of the cherubim."
